Mr. Coo Interactive Comic

Nacho Rodriguez, whose Mr. Coo series was featured before , has a Mr. Coo game out — well, it’s sort of a game, but it’s more like an interactive comic. Check it out. I love the way the frames move. It’s in Spanish, but very sparingly.

PIXEL COMIC: Super Oors World

Posted by jon jon | August 21st, 2008

Okay, so this certainly isn’t the first time someone has made a comic out of pixel art. But a couple things set Super Oors World apart. First, is the pleasing lack of text—making this essentially a “silent” comic. Second, it’s completely Creative Commons licensed, including the sprite characters themselves, so that you can make your own comic. Oh yeah, and it’s also funny, which helps!

If steampunk is a futurized industrial age, then this is pyramind punk. Or hieroglunk. Like Stargate, but not terrible.

Music Video: Justice’s DVNO

Posted by rick rick | August 17th, 2008

Directed by So-Me and Machine Molle, if you like logo design this video is for you. Incorporating the style of tons of 70’s logos and giving them a current 3D feel, this video’s pretty great.

Electronic Music From Binärpilot

Posted by jon jon | August 13th, 2008

Binärpilot is the electonic music project of Alexander Støver. Alexander hails from Norway, and makes some downright fun music. It’s fragmented, video gamey, and just a little bit silly. Even better, it’s all free, and you can download his entire discography as a torrent via the Pirate Bay.

“Goof” off of the album Defrag:

Boy Fights Wind in Surreal Animated Short

Posted by dave dave | August 11th, 2008

I think the backgrounds of this film are looped real-world video footage. I’m not really sure, but either way, black-and-white-and-weird is hard to pass up. Three cheers for Emiel Penders.

Zach Condon - Beirut = Minimalist Beirut

Posted by dave dave | August 09th, 2008

You might think I’m being smarmy with that title up there. I’m not. Beirut is incredible, and their lead singer, Zach, seems to be writing and recording alone now. The horns of Beirut remain, but not the drums, and he’s thrown in a few ambient keyboards and echoey electronic sounds. Give it a listen.

STORY: Cory Doctorow’s Geek Monastery

Posted by ted ted | August 08th, 2008

red nose
Cory Doctorow’s new short story, "The Things that Make Me Weak and Strange Get Engineered Away," is available on Tor as a free read. This one’s about a monastical organization for geeks, something of a cross between academia and the Googleplex. It’s Tor.com’s first Creative Commons-licensed story, so be sure to translate it into Swahili or at least tell them how much you appreciate them not locking down your media. The cool image associated with it is by Red Nose Studio. And if you’re too lazy to read, the audio link below is a podcast of Cory reading it to you. Full service!
