An entire series starring someone in a coma? A strange concept that turns out to be a great platform for surreal humor. There’s already seven episodes, and new ones are released every week. Written and directed by Evil TV contributor Rick Castaneda!

This is another video made by Cyriak. I love this guy’s style. Apparently he’s been getting a lot of commercial work lately, and deservedly so. Shit, you should probably watch this as well.

This is one of my favorite short films of all time. Was nominated for the Academy Award back in 1999, and now Wholpin, the lovely DVD series from McSweeneys, has brought it to YouTube! The director, Mark Osborne, went on to direct Kung Fu Panda.

This strip by Jason Shiga proved too unconventional for the editors of the Asian Week, who, Jason speculates, probably would have preferred an “Asian Boondocks or Cathy.” Well, I thought it was cool.

Cyriak is a freelance animator from the U.K. This particular video is a short called Robogran. However, I first discovered Cyriak though his “animation mixes”—little bits of leftover animation collected off of his hard drive and set to music. Here’s a mix from 2007 and one from 2009.

Joaquin Baldwin’s dark, mesmerizing story of doll heroics won the top rating at the 2008 Aniboom Awards, along with hundreds of other awards. And rightfully so.

A very strange and dryly funny film by Chris Dotson.

Nacho Rodriguez, whose Mr. Coo series was featured before , has a Mr. Coo game out — well, it’s sort of a game, but it’s more like an interactive comic. Check it out. I love the way the frames move. It’s in Spanish, but very sparingly.

This beautiful, black and white animation by Craig Welch comes to us courtesy of the YouTube Screening Room. Features an obsessive scientist who seeks the answer to a seemingly impossible question.

If steampunk is a futurized industrial age, then this is pyramind punk. Or hieroglunk. Like Stargate, but not terrible.

I think the backgrounds of this film are looped real-world video footage. I’m not really sure, but either way, black-and-white-and-weird is hard to pass up. Three cheers for Emiel Penders.
